A failed Viking keypad or intercom in Las Vegas is usually one of three things: a worn keypad membrane, a corroded control board, or a lost program after a power hiccup. We stock Viking-compatible keypads, intercom modules, and replacement boards on our trucks, and most repairs run $95 – $140 in labor plus $65 – $220 for parts, depending on what failed. Same-day service is available for keypad and intercom repairs Monday through Saturday, and we carry parts for most Viking E-Series, S-Series, and K-Series entry systems.
You usually find out your Viking keypad failed the hard way: you punch in your code and nothing happens, or the intercom rings the house phone but the audio is dead, or the whole unit goes dark overnight. Sometimes it’s a single sticky button. Other times the gate won’t respond at all, and you’re stuck at the driveway keypad in the heat, wondering if it’s the keypad, the gate board, or something in between. That’s the first thing we sort out on site, because Viking systems will happily blame a keypad for a problem that’s actually a door strike or a phone-line issue.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
We work on the full range of Viking gate entry systems found in Las Vegas neighborhoods: the E-30, E-50, and E-60 series entry phones, the SLP and RC series remote keypads, and the older K-1200 and K-1700 series that are still common in Summerlin and Henderson HOA communities. If you’re not sure what model you have, open the faceplate and look for the small white sticker on the inside of the housing, Viking prints the model number, voltage (12V or 24V), and a date code there. A date code starting with “03” means 2003, “14” means 2014, and so on.
One compatibility gotcha Las Vegas owners run into constantly: Viking made both 12-volt and 24-volt versions of several popular keypads, and they look nearly identical from the outside. Swapping in the wrong voltage keypad will burn out the control chip, sometimes within a day. We match by the sticker and by testing the transformer output at the gate before we install anything. On parts, we install genuine Viking OEM parts when the repair needs to be exact: boards, intercom handsets, and newer E-Series faceplates. For keypad membranes and batteries, we use a high-quality aftermarket equivalent that typically runs 30-40% less than the Viking-branded version, with the same UV and heat rating. We’ll show you the difference in writing before you decide.

Signs Your Viking Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Some buttons work fine, one or two don’t register at all. The keypad membrane has a cracked trace under a button you use constantly, almost always the * or # key. In Las Vegas heat, membranes dry out and crack faster than the national average, usually around the 5-7 year mark.
- The keypad beeps and lights up, but the gate doesn’t respond. The keypad is sending the code, but the gate control board isn’t receiving or accepting it. This points to a relay on the gate board, not the keypad itself, and we test for that before ordering any part.
- The intercom rings the house phone but the audio is garbled or dead. On Viking systems, this is typically a failed capacitor on the intercom module or a corroded terminal where the phone line lands on the board. Corrosion from monsoonal humidity, not the dry heat, is the usual culprit here.
- The whole keypad goes dark at random times, then comes back. Classic loose ground or a failing power supply. Viking keypads are sensitive to voltage sag, and a transformer that’s been baking in an unshaded Las Vegas wall box for eight years can droop just enough to brown out the unit.
- Your code works, then stops working a day or two later. When the keypad drops its programming intermittently, the memory chip’s little internal battery has reached the end of its life. The fix is a board-level swap, not a re-program. We can re-program on the spot, but if the battery is the root cause, it’ll drop the code again within the week.

These are the ranges we’ve actually quoted for Viking keypad and intercom repairs across Las Vegas, from Spring Valley up through North Las Vegas. The biggest variables are board age and whether your system runs 12V or 24V, older K-series boards cost more to source because Viking discontinued some of them and we have to pull from our local parts supplier. Every price is quoted and agreed in writing before any work starts, so the invoice number matches the door number. If the repair fails within 365 days, our 365-Day Done Right Promise means we come back and fix it free. That’s in writing on every job.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do two things before calling: clean the keypad face with a dry microfiber cloth to rule out dust on the contacts, and check the breaker or transformer feeding the gate. After that, we strongly recommend you stop and call us at (725) 220-0280. These are low-voltage systems, so you’re not dealing with the 120V side, but mis-wiring the keypad leads can send 24 volts through the wrong terminal and take out the gate control board too, turning a $185 keypad repair into a $500+ board replacement.
What we see go wrong on DIY Viking swaps: mismatched voltage (the big one), reversed data and ground wires, and waterproofing failures where the owner never got the faceplate gasket seated correctly, so the first good rain kills the board. Tell me what it’s doing – or not doing – and we’ll figure the rest out from there.
FAQs
Most Viking keypads and intercoms in Las Vegas last 6 to 10 years before the first failure, with keypad membranes going first at the 5-7 year mark and boards following a few years behind. The extreme UV and summer heat shorten membrane life here compared to coastal climates. Call (725) 220-0280 if you’re near that age and noticing sticky buttons or intermittent dropouts, catching a membrane early saves the board.
Yes, in most cases we repair the failed component, membrane, terminal strip, capacitor, or memory chip, rather than swapping the whole unit. Full keypad replacement is only a recommendation when the housing is cracked or the board has multiple failed circuits. We’ll show you the broken part and quote the repair before you commit to anything.
A typical Viking keypad or intercom replacement takes 45 to 90 minutes on site, including pulling the old unit, installing the new part, testing the code and intercom audio end-to-end, and cleaning the connections. We carry the common parts on the truck, so there’s usually no second trip. If your exact board isn’t on the truck, we tell you before we dispatch and schedule once the part clears our supplier.
We stock Viking-compatible keypad membranes, the E-Series assemblies, common intercom modules, and assorted Viking hardware on our service trucks, plus parts we also carry for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. For less common K-Series boards, we source from our local Las Vegas parts distributor, usually within one business day. No chasing parts online or waiting on backorder.
