DoorKing gate motor replacement in Las Vegas typically costs $650 – $1,250 installed, depending on the model and whether we’re swapping the motor only or the complete operator head. We stock DoorKing-compatible motors and swing/slide operator parts on our trucks, so most replacements happen the same day we arrive. Owners usually discover the motor has failed when the gate either stops mid-travel, hums without moving, or trips its breaker repeatedly after months of slower-than-normal operation.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing swing gate operators come in two main series: the residential 6002/6003/6050/6100 lines and the heavier 9024/9150 commercial units. Slide gate operators include the 1601/1602 series and the 1150/1175 commercial slides. The motor itself sits inside the operator housing on the right or left side depending on gate configuration, and it’s matched to the arm type: articulated arm, linear arm, or rack-and-pinion.
The compatibility gotcha we see constantly in Las Vegas: DoorKing changed motor shaft dimensions between the older 6050 (pre-2014) and the 6050-080 replacement series, so a motor that “looks the same” won’t always bolt in. We always pull the label off the existing motor before ordering or stocking a part: the model tag lives under the operator cover and lists the exact motor part number, like 2600-010 for swing operators or 2600-214 for slide units. If the label is sun-baked or missing, we take shaft measurements on the spot.
On OEM versus aftermarket: genuine DoorKing motors run 15 – 30% more than quality aftermarket equivalents from suppliers like USAutomatic or HySecurity cross-references. For most Las Vegas residential gates, an aftermarket motor with the matching shaft size, RPM, and capacitor spec performs identically and we warranty it the same way. For commercial gates that cycle more than 50 times a day, we recommend OEM because the motor windings are built at a higher duty-cycle rating.

Signs Your DoorKing Gate Motor Is Failing
- The gate hums but doesn’t move. That hum is the motor windings energizing but the start capacitor or internal gears have failed. With a DoorKing, the capacitor is the usual culprit first, but if we replace the capacitor and the problem returns within a few weeks, the motor windings themselves are degrading.
- The gate moves in slow motion. A doorKing motor that takes twice as long to open or close, especially at night when Las Vegas temperatures drop, is running on failing bearings or weak brush contact. It’ll get worse, not better.
- Intermittent operation that resets itself. When the motor overheats, the thermal overload trips. The gate stops, then works again 15 minutes later. That’s the motor telling you it’s running hot, and in a Las Vegas driveway that hit 115 degrees in July, the motor cooling surfaces are already at a disadvantage.
- A grinding or knocking sound from inside the operator housing. That’s the reduction gear or output shaft bearing wearing out. If you keep running it, metal shavings from the gear can find their way into the motor, and now you’re replacing both instead of one.
- The breaker feeding the gate keeps tripping. A DoorKing motor drawing too many amps on startup is either running on a failing capacitor or shorted windings. This is the failure mode that most often gets misdiagnosed as an electrical panel problem, when the gate motor is the actual draw.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a residential DoorKing swing or slide operator in Las Vegas, the motor replacement typically runs $650 – $950 installed, including the part and labor. Commercial DoorKing units run $950 – $1,250 because the motors are heavier and often require a boom lift or crane rental for the swap. Here’s the breakdown:
| Service | Typical Range in Las Vegas |
|---|---|
| DoorKing swing motor replacement (residential) | $650 – $850 installed |
| DoorKing slide motor replacement (residential) | $700 – $950 installed |
| Commercial DoorKing motor replacement | $950 – $1,250 installed |
| Capacitor-only repair (when motor is still good) | $120 – $180 installed |
| Motor-only diagnostic call (if you’re not sure what failed) | $89, credited toward the repair |
Every price is written down before we touch a single wire. The number on that written quote is the number on the final invoice, period. The replacement also includes removal of the old motor, new motor installation, limit switch resynchronization, and a full test of the gate’s open/close/stop cycle.
DIY or Call Us?
If your DoorKing motor has failed, the only thing you should safely attempt is confirming the operator has power and the breaker hasn’t tripped. After that, the work gets genuinely dangerous.
DoorKing operators run on 115V house current or, on some commercial units, 220V. The motor compartment sits inside the same housing as the control board and the start capacitor, which stores a charge even after the unit is unplugged. That capacitor can deliver a wallop equivalent to a stun gun if you touch the wrong terminal. On top of that, any time you’re opening the operator housing, you’re near the driven sprocket and chain or the swing arm pivot point. A finger in the wrong spot while testing costs you more than a service call.
We see at least one DIY DoorKing attempt a month in Las Vegas, and it usually arrives in the form of a customer holding a bag of disconnected wires asking us to sort out which one goes where. Save yourself the afternoon. Call (725) 220-0280 and we’ll route a tech who knows these units from the inside out.
FAQs
A DoorKing gate motor in Las Vegas typically lasts 7 – 12 years, with the shorter end of that range applying to gates that face direct afternoon sun all summer or cycle more than 20 times a day. Heat accelerates capacitor wear and breaks down motor winding insulation faster than any other factor in this climate.
Sometimes, yes. If the problem is a start or run capacitor, a bearing, a brush set on DC models, or a limit switch, those are repairable for $120 – $280 and we do those repairs daily. If the motor windings are burnt or shorted, which you can smell and see as darkened copper, replacement is the only option. Call (725) 220-0280 and we’ll diagnose it on site, not over the phone.
A residential DoorKing motor replacement takes 60 – 90 minutes for most swing and slide operators. Commercial units take up to three hours if we need a lift for access. We carry the common motors on the truck, so the first trip to a Las Vegas home is usually the only trip.
We stock the common DoorKing motors, capacitors, limit switches, and control boards on our trucks for the 6002, 6050, 6100, and 1601 series. More obscure parts, like the 9024 commercial swing motor, we source from a local Las Vegas distributor and usually have in hand within 24 to 48 hours.
If your DoorKing gate motor has been acting up, or it’s already dead, call (725) 220-0280 and tell us what it’s doing or not doing. Estimates are free, and like Nico Alvarez says around here, “Tell me what it’s doing – or not doing – and we’ll figure the rest out from there.” We’re tucked inside the Relay Home Co. family and have been running straight since 2009. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if the problem turns out not to be DoorKing-specific, we’re still your stop.
