Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Most Mighty Mule keypad and intercom repairs in Las Vegas run between $145 and $285 installed, depending on whether we’re rebuilding the existing unit or swapping in a new OEM-compatible part. We stock Mighty Mule keypads, intercom modules, and wiring harnesses on our trucks, so most calls are same-day fixes, not week-long waits.

Call (725) 220-0280

Here’s how this usually goes down: the keypad stops accepting your code, or the intercom crackles so badly you can’t hear anyone at the gate. Sometimes the whole thing goes dark. You assume the gate opener itself died. Nine times out of ten, it’s just the keypad or intercom component, and it’s a fraction of the cost of a new opener. Nico Alvarez has pulled up to enough Las Vegas driveways to recognize the pattern before the truck even stops rolling.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To

Mighty Mule has been making gate openers for decades, and the keypad and intercom systems have changed over the years. This repair path covers the MM360, MM371, MM372, MM571, and MM572 series openers, plus the FM500 and FM502 models. The newer Mighty Mule openers use a wireless keypad that pairs to the control board, while older units run wired keypads directly into the board terminals. If you’re not sure which one you have, check the label on the underside of the opener arm or the control board itself. The model number is printed there, usually starting with MM or FM.

If you’re replacing a keypad, the big decision is OEM versus aftermarket. Mighty Mule’s own replacement keypads are reliable but pricier, and some of the older model keypads have been discontinued entirely. Quality aftermarket keypads from brands like Add-A-Gate or Gatehouse run $35 to $70 and work fine for most residential setups, but you need to verify the frequency and the number of wires before you buy. That’s exactly the kind of mismatch we see on failed DIY repairs: a 4-wire keypad ordered for a board that wants 3 wires, or a 433MHz keypad paired to a 318MHz receiver. It doesn’t matter how good the part is if it’s talking on the wrong frequency.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mighty Mule, but we’ve worked on enough of their boards to know which parts interchange and which ones absolutely don’t. One quick note for Las Vegas specifically: the MM series uses a plastic housing on the keypad that gets brittle after five or six years of direct sun. We replace a lot of keypads where the buttons themselves are fine but the housing has cracked wide open from UV exposure. If yours looks chalky or yellowed, it’s living on borrowed time.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Is Failing

Here’s what homeowners tell us before they call.

  • The keypad accepts the code but the gate won’t move. This usually means the keypad is sending a signal but the control board isn’t hearing it. Could be a wiring fault between the keypad and the board, or a receiver that’s drifted off frequency in the heat. In Las Vegas, we see receiver drift a lot: control boards sitting in direct sun on west-facing gates bake all afternoon, and the components inside shift.
  • The keypad works sometimes, then stops for no reason. A weak signal, a corroded wire connection, or a keypad battery that’s on its last legs. If you have to punch your code in two or three times before the gate opens, the keypad’s transmitter is starting to fail.
  • The intercom makes a loud buzz or crackle. This is almost always a bad speaker or a corroded connection where the intercom wire meets the gate post. The fixed intercom units get the worst of it: wind-blown dust and the occasional rainstorm work their way into the housing, and the connections corrode over time.
  • You hear audio from the intercom, but the keypad buttons do nothing. The keypad membrane has failed. The rubber buttons on Mighty Mule keypads dry out and crack, and once the membrane splits, dust and moisture get into the circuit board and kill individual keys.
  • The whole unit goes dark, no backlight, no sound. This is often a power issue at the board, not just a dead keypad. Don’t assume the part is bad until we’ve checked the board’s accessory power terminal. We’ve found blown fuses and loose power connectors causing symptoms that looked exactly like a dead keypad, and the fix was under $50.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Las Vegas, a Mighty Mule keypad replacement runs $145 to $230 installed, including the part. Intercom replacements run $180 to $285 installed, depending on whether it’s a wired unit or a wireless module. If both need replacement at the same time, you’re looking at roughly $275 to $400. But that’s the whole ballgame: if it’s just a wire repair or a board adjustment, it’s often under $100.

Every quote at Calder Gate Repair Las Vegas is a written number before any work starts. That’s not optional; it’s how we’ve operated since we started as part of the Relay Home Co. family in 2009. The price you agree to at the door is the price on the invoice when the job’s done. The part and the labor are priced separately, so you see exactly what you’re paying for. And the repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If the keypad or intercom fails within 365 days, we come back and make it right at no charge. No fine print, no prorated nonsense.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things you can safely check yourself before calling: confirm the keypad’s battery is fresh, make sure the wire connections behind the keypad aren’t loose, and if you have a wired unit, look for obvious corrosion on the terminals where the wire meets the gate. That’s where honest DIY ends. Swapping a keypad touches the control board, and the control board powers the gate opener itself. If you short the wrong accessory terminal, you can fry the board and turn a $200 keypad job into a $600 board replacement. Ask us how often we see that. It’s a lot.

We tell every Las Vegas homeowner the same thing: if you’re comfortable with low-voltage wiring, you can probably handle a wireless keypad swap. If the keypad is hardwired to the board, or the intercom is mounted inside the gate post, call us at (725) 220-0280. We’ll quote the job over the phone and give you a real arrival time you can track. Not a four-hour window. A time.
